The before and after plots tell the story.  Noisy data (before) can be quickly quieted by calculating repertoire equations (after).  Notice how the clumps of data - representing five different animal species - work together to produce exactly what we need - power equations with coefficients of correlation close to one (r²≈1).  The puzzle is quickly solved by merely connecting these equations into a network.
